Meyersdale Area Historical Society Train Room

Future Plans of the

Meyersdale Area Historical Society

The Meyersdale Area Historical Society has plans in the works to turn the rest of the former Western Maryland Railway Station, which has been our "home" since 1994, into an interpretive center which tells of the history of Meyersdale and the surrounding area, as well as a trail head station for the Allegheny Highlands Hiking/Biking Trail, that stetches from just outside of Pittsburgh, PA, and will eventually reach Washington, DC. The trail now ends outside of Meyersdale, with the next opening to be at the restored Savage Tunnel, which the will take the trail into Frosturg, MD, and eventually Cumberland, MD. The trail now crosses both the Keystone Viaduct (909 ft. long) and the famous Salisbury Viaduct (1908 ft. long, the second longest on the Western Maryland Railway.)

These pictures are of the former men's waiting room in the station, which will be used for the interpretive center.

This will be in the curent men's waiting room

This will feature local history and a train modeling the Salisbury and Keystone Viaducts and the Mt. Savage Tunnel
