While we were at improving the other two layouts, we looked at the new HO scale layout and decided to "smooth out" some of the rough edges in it's looks!
Before
The original idea was to link the two tiers with a "hillside" and put tunnel portals on both sides.
This made viewing the trains on the bottom difficult due to the close location of the top tier and very impracticable for future scenery work planned for the bottom tier.

EditRNowe
Thanks to Joe Brant's carpentry work, we raised the top tier and made it stronger underneath. The top layout had more structures added to it and plexiglas and 1"x 3" boards were placed at critical points to keep derailed trains from taking a nasty fall to the floor(OUCH!).
Some new locomoitves on the top tier
Once the top was raised, then we did some scenery work, like the new tunnel. gion
Some roads and vehicles were added, including this station, which provided a great background for some shots train shots.
Just like the O scale, this is also a work in progress. More things are planned to be added onto the lower level.
